Mr Kwan has been involved in the resort industry for his entire 35-year career in all aspects of the business including planning, design, development, operations, sales & marketing, financing, acquisitions and divestment for a wide range of resort developments internationally.
Mr Kwan was a partner with the Belt Collins Group from 1994 to 1997, the largest resort planning consultancy in the Pacific Rim, establishing a specialty development strategy division providing advisory services to premier resort clients and municipalities throughout the region including Kerry Properties, CDL Properties, and Gold Coast City Council. In 1997 Mr Kwan joined Intrawest Corporation, North America’s leading developer of destination resorts based in Vancouver, Canada and owner of Whistler, the #1 resort in North America. He was one of only a select few senior executives to work within the company’s corporate, real estate, and operations groups and across its mountain and beach resorts (including the 2,400 acre Sandestin Resort in Florida). He was integrally involved in the acquisition of Abercrombie & Kent the leading luxury travel operator worldwide, that in the first year following acquisition delivered incremental revenue of $257M and net profit of $20.4M. In 2006 Intrawest was privatized for $2.8 billion.
In 2007 Mr Kwan formed a partnership with Mr Lawrence Ho and his Melco International group of Hong Kong and established Melco’s resort real estate development subsidiary as its Chief Executive Officer headquartered in Beijing. By 2009 Melco was the largest integrated resort developer in China with five properties and over 5,000 employees. He developed the first Club Med resort operating in China, and was awarded by both TIME Magazine and the China Entrepreneur’s Forum for his redevelopment projects in the country. In 2010 Mr Kwan refinanced Melco’s development company and established Character Capital Inc. as its Managing Principal.
Mr Kwan is a Senior Advisor to Cascadia Capital LLC and obtained his FINRA Series 63 Securities Agent and Series 79 Investment Banking designation in 2014. He has been a guest speaker at many international investment conferences and interviewed by The New York Times, The Huron Report, The Robb Report, CNN, Forbes, and Bloomberg.
Mr Peter Baines has built his thirty-plus years career in hospitality operations leadership roles. Promoted to executive corporate positions for Fairmont-Raffles Hotels and then as Group CFO for Red Planet Hotels, his field of knowledge covers luxury through budget hospitality operations from a finance, reporting and controls perspective with keen insight into development positioning and opportunities. His career is distinguished with international experience in finance and business development in the Americas, Europe and in Southeast Asia.
From 2002 through 2013 as Vice President of Development for Fairmont-Raffles Hotels, he was involved in numerous trophy projects effectively implementing and executing upon the management contracts for the Savoy Hotel in London, the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, the Raffles Royal Monceau in Paris, amongst others. From 2013 to 2016 he was the Group CFO for Red Planet Hotels, a leading developer and operator of value hotels in Southeast Asia. He established loan facilities with local banks; and implemented financial reporting, audit, internal controls, cash flow, and liquiditymanagement across four countries ofoperation.
Mr Cullen has been involved in market driven development economics for over 25 years. He began his career in merchant banking before joining the international development strategy group, Thomas Consultants specializing in market research, development strategies and project planning. In 1999 Mr Cullen founded Urbacity Pty Ltd, advising premier developers and government authorities in Australia and New Zealand as to integrated community and development planning, so as to maximize a project’s economic performance, in tandem with jurisdictional and regulatory guidelines. Mr Cullen is responsible for Character Capital's client services and local representation in Australia and New Zealand including mandates for the financing of hotel, industrial, retail, residential, and mixed use developments.
Roxanne brings her diverse experience to residential developments locally and globally, in both hot and soft, mature and emerging markets. From suburban to urban, entry-level to luxury, mountain to beach, non-branded to five-star hotel, Roxanne Reid has over two decades of experience in all facets of the real estate development industry throughout North America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Asia and Europe. Her strong leadership skills and intense focus have resulted in the on-time and on-budget delivery of world-class marketing for over 200 projects exceeding $2.5 billion in sales.
Roxanne has worked with a variety of project marketing firms and developers including Milborne, Royal LePage, Sotheby’s, Intrawest, and S&P Destination Properties. During this time she gained experience working through site selection, pro forma development, envisioning sessions, product and offering development, unit mix, lead generation, customer profiling and design and programming.
She has worked with a range of developers from local family-run businesses, to the more global scale representing brands such as Ritz-Carlton, Orient-Express, Oberoi, Westin, Four Seasons, JALUX, Seven Signatures and The Lyle Anderson Company. Notably, she oversaw the marketing success of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Waikiki Beach Walk, recognized for single-day launch sales of $700 million, setting records worldwide at that time, The Ritz-Carlton Waikiki Beach Walk that sold over $750 million sold in two one-day launch sales; and the Fours Seasons Whistler selling out all 242 units in a one day launch sales event for proceeds in excess of $150 million.
Most recently she has focused her activities as a senior marketing advisor to development company principals to create project strategies, and execute upon creative real estate marketing.
